Weight Loss Medication

Weight loss Injections.

We are getting a lot of queries about weight loss injections.

 

We are unable to prescribe at surgery level. 

 

In the first phase of the roll-out of weight management medications (between now and April 2026), people with a BMI of 40 or above (or 37.5 for people from South Asian, Chinese, other Asian, Middle Eastern, Black African or African-Caribbean ethnic backgrounds), AND with four out of the following diagnosed health conditions will be prioritised:

-          Type 2 diabetes on treatment

-          High blood pressure on treatment

-          Heart diseases caused by atherosclerosis

-          Obstructive sleep apnoea on a CPAP machine

-          Abnormal blood fats on treatment

If you do NOT meet all the criteria above, please do not contact us to ask for these new injections. We are following strict NHS guidance and will not be able to prescribe them to you at this time.

Limited quantities of medication are available through Tier 3 Weight Management Programme services.  

See Tier 3 Weight Management Programme - Healthy You for more information about the services. There is currently a waiting list of 6 months for Tier 3 weight management services.  You may not be offered weight loss medication following review at the service.

 

Before you contact us, check if you are eligible for referral to Tier 3 services

·         Type 2 Diabetes  – Please wait to discuss at your Diabetic nurse review.

·         BMI >40 or BMI>35 with weight related co-morbidities – Contact us through Admin query for referral to Tier 3 Weight Managment Programme

·         BMI >30 and you have previously completed a 12 week weight management program within the last 2 years, you may be eligible. – Contact us through Admin query

Those in the categories below are not eligible for Tier 3 services or weight loss medication but are eligible for the Tier 2 Weight Management Programme - Healthy You.

·         Over 16 years of age

·         Either have :

·         BMI > 23 for patients from South Asia, China, or other Asian, Middle Eastern, Black African, African-Caribbean background or

·         BMI > 25

AND ARE:

·         Motivated to make changes over next 3 months

·         No significant mobility or illness issues precluding involvement in the program

·         12 week nutrition, behavior change and exercise program

·         12 weeks of Slimming World or Weight Watchers (WW)
